Hour 1
(Brand-new/current releases. I am full-on addicted to "The Sunshine Song." It's becoming my go-to tune when I need to smile. Also, I'm so late on the Orianthi song, but I am LOVING it. It was the anthem to my past week.)

Hour 2
(I started out wanting to play the new Robbie Williams single, which I think is easily one of his best. Then, I found myself experimenting with other songs. When I got to "Rockferry," I zeroed in on my favorite lyric from that song: "A bag of songs and a heavy heart" From there, I played with the kind of songs we carry in our minds and reach for when we have a heavy heart. The hour evolved from there. I love the full-circle/get-over-yourself moment at the end. I have to also note that there are some moments that I'm especially proud of this hour, particularly between "Hometown Glory" and "Cruz." I am so grateful that I get to do the radio of my dreams every week without interference.)

(A rare interview with the legendary Roberta Flack. A planned 15-minute chat became 40. Her stories are luxuriously long and wonderfully vivid. What an delicious, unexpected treat. She looks luminous and not nearly all of her 73 years of life. I have to admit, though, it was funny to watch her slip and slide out of her chair the entire time. Her grandson was there to help her keep steady. She never lost her storytelling focus)

Hour 2
(I spent some time recently wandering around the Lower East Side of Manhattan, an area where I spent a LOT of time as a college student. As I walked around, I listened to Patti Smith's elegant, yet tortured "Horses" album over and over. I started with a couple of her songs in building this hour, and then the memories flooded my brain... along with the rest of the hour. I love this hour because it reminds me of a time in my life when I was more brave and daring... and even reckless. I need more of that in my current life. Do you?)

Best of all, by the end of our chat, you'll get to hear a side of Charlotte that is quite different than you've ever heard in any other interview. (I waited for what seemed like an eternity to talk with Mary J. Blige. She was roughly three hours late to record this conversation. She showed up with a massive entourage, which only added irritation to the situation. I confess that I went into the interview with a BAD attitude. I love the girl, but I have a quirk about lateness and how it reads as hardcore disrespect to me. In the end, she had a good excuse, and I wound up feeling pleased that I toughed out the wait. Hour 3
Mary is a delight)
