Feel The Spin Playlist, March 21st...

Hour 1
(Brand-new/current releases. So many cool tracks this week. Goldfrapp's new album, "Head First," is gorgeous. It's ABBA-redux in the middle of "Xanadu"! Then, there's the new Shayne Ward track, which is the first song he's recorded that could break in America. And then there's Todd Alsup and Matt Morris... and finally, Judy Ztuke's "If"... another masterful composition/production from the brilliant Steve Anderson.)

Hour 2
(The passing of pioneering American radio DJ Ron Lundy last week was a huge emotional blow to me. During his heyday as part of the line-up of the legendary WABC Musicradio 77 during the '70s, he was a constant companion to me as a shy, often isolated little boy. So many years later, he's proven to be a huge influence on the way I approach my daily show, "The Morning Jolt." To pay tribute to Mr. Lundy, I dug up WABC's playlist from March 18, 1975. I was 12 then years old and glued to my little transistor radio... and these songs. In so many ways, I still am.)

(One of my favorite new artists the moment is Dan Black. He makes music that is anashamedly pure pop. He also underlines his songs with words of hope and reasons to believe that tomorrow is going to be awesome. We sat down this week and had a most wonderful, intimate conversation. Then, he picked up his guitar and played a few songs for me.)

Hour 3
(I started out wanting to play the new Robbie Williams single, which I think is easily one of his best. Then, I found myself experimenting with other songs. When I got to "Rockferry," I zeroed in on my favorite lyric from that song: "A bag of songs and a heavy heart" From there, I played with the kind of songs we carry in our minds and reach for when we have a heavy heart. The hour evolved from there. I love the full-circle/get-over-yourself moment at the end. I have to also note that there are some moments that I'm especially proud of this hour, particularly between "Hometown Glory" and "Cruz." I am so grateful that I get to do the radio of my dreams every week without interference.)
